Benefits of the Program

For students with AP or dual credit and an excellent GPA, the University Scholars Program (USP) is an opportunity to earn the BA in Public Policy and the Master of Public Policy (MPP) in five years, rather than six. Students will begin MPP courses during their final year in the BA program. The total number of hours for the combined programs may be up to 12 fewer hours than the total required for earning each degree separately.

Admission

Students must be admitted to the Graduate School before taking any graduate-level MPP courses.  To be accepted into the USP, students must apply to the Graduate School during their junior year, and have:

  • Earned at least 90 credit hours
  • At least 3.5 major GPA
  • At least 3.2 cumulative GPA

Although only 90 hours are required to apply to the USP, it's recommended that students have completed at least 100 hours by the start of their senior year. Students should work closely with their academic advisor to create a plan to complete the 4+1. Please contact the Student Affairs Officer with questions.

Application

To complete the Graduate School application you will need the following:

  • Official transcripts
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement
  • Resume
  • Completed USP form
    • Student must work with their academic advisor and Director of Graduate Studies to complete this.
