University Scholars Program

Earn a BA and master's degree in just five years!

For students with AP or dual credit and an excellent GPA, the University Scholars Program (USP) is an opportunity to earn the BA in Public Policy and the Master of Public Policy (MPP) in five years. This pathway saves time and money, as students complete both degrees in one less year than they would otherwise. The total number of hours for the combined programs may be up to 12 fewer hours than the total required for earning each degree separately.

Admissions

Students should apply to the MPP program in spring of their junior year through Apply Yourself, the Graduate School’s admission system. All regular application materials must be submitted except GRE scores, which are not required for USP students. To apply, students must have earned at least 90 credit hours or have senior standing, plus have a 3.5 major GPA and a 3.2 overall GPA. Students should work with their academic advisor to complete the USP form, get the appropriate signatures, and upload to the existing application in Apply Yourself.

Benefits

Students will begin MPP courses their fourth or senior year in the BA program but will be categorized as undergraduate students for tuition purposes, saving a year of graduate tuition. This also provides early opportunities to network with Martin School graduate students and get a head start learning advanced analytical skills. For highly motivated undergraduate students, the USP can really kickstart a career in policy research and analysis in a variety of career settings across the public, nonprofit, or private sector.
