Martin School Highlights 2016-2017 Faculty Achievements
- Dr. Eugenia Toma was named the 2016 Distinguished Kentucky Economist by the Kentucky Economic Association.
- Dr. Eugenia Toma was named a Co-Prinicipal Investigator for the new Kentucky Research Data Center, which will open in Spring 2017 through the Gatton School.
- Dr. John Thelin has published a new book, America Higher Education: Issues & Institutions. Available in February 2017.
- Dr. John Thelin has also published an article, “Higher Education Leaders: Hiring and Firing Our Presidents” in the November 22, 2016 issues of the journal EVOLUTION.
- Dr. John Thelin was the keynote speaker for the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and the Prichard Committee’s June symposium on the future of funding for public higher education in Kentucky, and continues to serve as a member of the American Enterprise Institute’s working group on the future of higher education.
- Dr. Dwight Denison has published a new article, “Determinants of Debt Concentration at the State Level” with co-author Robert Greer in the journal, Public Budgeting and Finance.
- Dr. Ron Zimmer, our new Director, has three new publications:

- Ron Zimmer and John Engberg (2016). “Can broad inferences be drawn from lottery analyses of school choice programs? An exploration of appropriate sensitivity analyses” Journal of School Choice, 10:1, 48-72.
- Dr. Ron Zimmer presented at the Association of Education Finance and Policy, and at the Association of Public Policy and Management this year.
- Dr. Ron Zimmer has had over 150 media mentions in the past year alone, including the Boston Globe, Yahoo, Education Week, USA Today, U.S. News and World Report, CNBC, the Detroit News, and Nashville Fox 17.
- Dr. Ron Zimmer also continues to work on a project examining low achieving schools in Tennessee through a Walton Family Foundation-funded grant.
- Dr. David Agrawal has received a grant from the International Growth Center for his work on tax evasion-- “Production Responses and Tax Evasion with Limited State Capacity - Evidence from Major Reform in India.”
- Dr. David Agrawal has published an article with William Fox, “Taxes in an e-commerce generation” in the journal, International Tax and Public Finance.
- Dr. David Agrawal has also been invited to eleven conferences to present his work, including the National Tax Association Conference on Taxation and the NBER University Research Conference.
- Dr. Ed Jennings published an article in Social Science Quarterly with two co-authors: “Empirical Evidence and Determinants of Region-based Environmental Injustice in China: Does Environmental Public Service Level Make a Difference?”
