Dr. Joseph Benitez, Associate Professor and health economist, was recently featured in a Washington Post article that examined the evolving political discourse surrounding the Affordable Care Act (ACA) during the Trump administration and its impact on low-income Americans. 

In the article, Dr. Benitez noted that transitions between Medicaid and private insurance are common in Appalachian regions. He credited the Affordable Care Act's Medicaid expansion for providing critical support to low-income individuals in the area. Benitez’s research, which focuses on Medicaid policy and access disparities, has examined how such shifts are vital for maintaining healthcare coverage amidst economic challenges.
